Our Webinars
Providing free, educational webinars is one of our core goals at Neurodiversity Ireland. We want to empower parents and carers with the knowledge and confidence they need to support and connect with their neurodivergent children. In addition, we have opened the first pilot Sensory Centre in Ireland, supported by Aviva, and are now offering OT-led camps and after school clubs for neurodivergent children.
Managing Stress and Burnout in Families
John Sharry
Neurordivergent children can experience higher levels of stress and burnout due to their needs being misunderstood and not accommodated. Parents of neurodivergent children also experience higher levels of stress managing the additional challenges their children face and dealing with daily extra demands. Sometimes this leads to parents experiencing their own care-giver burnout. In this talk, John will discuss how you can notice the signs of burnout in your children and yourself and describe practical steps you can take to reduce stress and promote recovery.

You Need Me and I Need Space
Kelsie Olds
Respectfully Parenting Children With Intense Connection Needs with The Occuplaytional Therapist.
Some children just seem to be born deep feelers. Other children experience early trauma or challenges that can cause lasting effects. Whether as a result of nature or nurture, when children have intense connection needs, they might be described as “clingy”, “needy”, “emotional”, “overly talkative”, as they set about trying to meet their own needs. Adults who are trying to parent from a positive paradigm might struggle to meet their child’s needs without sacrificing their own mental health, or body boundaries. Occupational therapist Kelsie Olds shares theory as well as practical ways to empower parents to meet the needs of everyone in their family, themselves included.

The Occuplaytional Therapist
Kelsie Olds
As more and more parents, caregivers, and adults start undertaking the work of helping the next generation of children feel safe to express their feelings rather than repeat unhealthy habits from the past, it can be hard knowing where to begin or which way is up. Co-regulation, self-regulation, interoception, what do these words mean? What does processing emotions actually look like in practice? When should children have developed which emotional skills, and how do adults help them on the way? These are some of the really powerful and important questions that Kelsie Olds, who goes by The Occuplaytional Therapist online, tackles during this webinar
