The Courtyard Garden

Sensory planting, outdoor exploration and the hobbit nook.

Our camps and groups give neurodivergent children a fun, child-led, neuroaffirming environment where they are free to explore, play, create, and connect in ways that feel right for them. Designed to honour each child's fluctuating capacity, there is no pressure to participate in any particular activity - children are supported to follow their interests, take breaks when needed, and engage at their own pace.

Sessions include a variety of activities such as messy play, water play, arts and crafts, face painting, sensory experiences, access to a sensory garden, and gross motor play areas. Occupational therapists and support staff are on site throughout, creating a safe, supportive environment where children can feel understood, accepted, and celebrated for who they are.

Above all, our sessions are about having fun, building connection, and creating opportunities for children to experience joy, autonomy, and belonging.

The evidence

The play behind our camps

Our camps and groups run in the same child-led, sensory-rich environment as our Sensory Centre - with climbing, jumping, mess and water available by design. These position papers explain why, and how we manage the real risks. Tap to read here, or download a copy.

Movement as Medicine: The Evidence for Jumping and Climbing

Why our Sensory Centre provides climbing, jumping and elevated play, and how the risk is managed. Covers the vestibular and proprioceptive science, connective tissue hypermobility, the safety evidence, and NDI's risk-benefit framework, grounded in Tusla guidance and children's rights law.

Mess, Water and Meaning: The Evidence for Messy Play and Water Play

Why our Sensory Centre arranges messy play and water play as part of the environment, not on request, and how the real risks are managed. Covers tactile processing, interoception, the regulatory properties of water, the genuine risks and their management, and why restriction is the bigger risk.
