Ireland's National Neurodiversity Charity. Promoting Neurodiversity and inclusion of neurodivergent kids and young people across Ireland🌈 RCN20206465

We are delighted to have offered 200 children plac We are delighted to have offered 200 children places on our summer camps & are working really hard to make them our best camps yet! We have created a child-led, demand free zone where neurodivergent children can play, make pals and grow their confidence to try new things. We know that self esteem is built upon feelings of belonging & being valued & at our camp, neurodivergent children can really be their authentic beautiful selves! These camps are only possible due to enormous graft by our staff team whose focus is always on making every child’s experience as successful as possible! Check out our website on ways to support our not for profit, volunteer-led charity - all donations directly support neurodivergent children who are so often excluded from the things that kids should be able to take for granted, like having fun with friends! #letmebeme #charity #neurodiversity #inclusion #bekind

🚴‍♂️ Thank You, Universal Music Group! 🚴‍♀️
We are so grateful to the brilliant team at Universal Music Group taking on an epic cycling challenge in support of Neurodiversity Ireland! 🌈
On 12 June 2025, a dedicated group of cyclists from UMG will set off on a 335km journey from Swansea to UMG Ireland in Dublin – crossing countries, climbing over 4000m elevation & pedalling across three full days… all to raise understanding & support for neurodivergent children and their families. This means the world to us. THANK YOU for going the extra mile – literally – for our children! 🙌💪

We are so grateful to Cara Darmody for highlightin We are so grateful to Cara Darmody for highlighting the dire condition of children’s disability services in Ireland in 2025.
Neurodiversity Ireland supports neurodivergent children and their families, including children who are autistic but also who are ADHD or have Tourette’s, or foetal alcohol syndrome or are dyslexic, have dyspraxia or are any of the other many and often overlapping neurotypes.
We do not want any more assessments of need without supports. The focus on assessment of needs has created an industry of businesses who are profiteering from vulnerable children and families. There has been no consultation with organisations like ours as children and their families need and want.  Businesses have set up overnight to take advantage of the AON money pot - which is not serving any child’s best interests.
The focus upon assessments of need has cannibalised any therapists or clinicians who might otherwise be able to support our children.
Our children need urgent speech and language therapy, occupational therapy, psychology, psychiatry, and other health and medical support that cannot be provided when everyone is caught up in only assessing.
Anyone who works in this area knows that there will never be enough therapists to do both assessments and supports.
We call on both the government and the opposition to talk to us. Listen to our solution to this crisis. We do not want any more millions pumped into businesses set up to assess our children’s needs, to the exclusion of any support for those needs.
Our charity currently supports 200 children per week with occupational therapy guided activities. We have no funding and rely on the generosity of our friends and families and donors.
We know the type of community based, fun supports our children enjoy & through which we can deliver real impacts.
Any policy that purports to look after the needs of children must centre the voices of those children and respect their wishes and desires. This is a requirement under the United Nations conventions on the rights of children and disabled people.
PDA has been a well known “profile” since 1980 PDA has been a well known “profile” since 1980s, when Elizabeth Newsom lead the way in publicising its characteristics and impacts. Recently, a less pathologising or medicalised approach, which is neurodiversity affirming, has reframed its name as a Persistent Drive for Autonomy (rather than pathological demand avoidance). There is no need to try again to reframe what PDA is called or what it means for commercial reasons or otherwise. There is however a need to properly understand what PDA is and this comes only from learning from people’s experiences of living with a PDAer or being a PDAer. This doesn’t come from meeting a PDAer in your clinic, nor will it come from teaching a PDAer unless their disability is fully accepted for what it is - usually invisible and often very hidden, at great cost to the PDAer. At our summit, @atpeaceparents @kendahldamashek and @ot_sorcharice opened their hearts and souls to our audience to explain what PDA means - from their lived experience. Casey has been also researching PDA since 2018 and is soon to publish a PDAQ, to be used to assist identification of PDA and ultimately ensuring it’s recognition as a disability of the nervous system, which is real, valid, lived and understood. Neurodiversity Ireland welcomes this development which is the life’s work of Casey and her family & the 1000s of families she has helped with this disability to date. We call on all professionals working with neurodivergent children and young people to learn about PDA from these experts. If you have questioned the validity of a label of ODD, personality disorder, conduct disorder or bipolar disorder, consider PDA. If you support anyone with an eating disorder, consider PDA. If you deal with OCD, skin picking, hair pulling, or other self injurious acts, consider PDA. Equalising can be directed at oneself. Our Summit attendees have access to a workbook where the 9 main accommodations are explained.

We are heartbroken by the final report on how ‘G We are heartbroken by the final report on how ‘Grace’ was treated.
While the report confirms her harrowing neglect, we are alarmed that the treatment of all of the other children placed in the same foster home will not be investigated. Vulnerable children must never be forgotten and justice must never be incomplete.
As a charity supporting neurodivergent children, we urge the Government to reconsider this investigation.
Tonight we think of all the children who are or should be in State “care” - let this NEVER happen again.
